Shorebirds Education

Article
Shorebirds & Wildlife

Come and join National Parks Education Rangers with a Guided Threatened Shorebird tour.

The Threatened Shorebirds program shares the plight of these incredible shorebirds, including Little terns, Pied oyster catchers and Beach stone curlews who lay their eggs and raise their chicks during October to March in shallow sand scrapes above the high tide mark here along the Coffs Coast.

These birds also need foraging areas where they can feed to satisfy their daily energy requirements and roosting areas where they can rest at high tide, all without the disturbance from people, dogs and cars.

Our Rangers will help you identify the different shore birds through the binocular lens where you can view the birds and their habitat undisturbed. You’ll discover ways in which we can be responsible when interacting with the environment to help protect threatened bird species when nesting and feeding through some fun interactive activities on the day.

Some binoculars will be available to use, but please bring your own if you have them.

No bookings required just show up on the day!

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Gumbaynggirr people,
who have cared for this land since time immemorial. We pay our respects to
their elders, past, present and emerging, and commit ourselves to a future
with reconciliation and renewal at its heart.
