Koala Scat Identification Workshop

MainImage.jpg
Do you want to learn how to identify Koala scats? Then this is the workshop for you!

Koalas need your help!

Would you like to walk in the bush and correctly identify the poop (aka scats) that lay on the ground around you? Then this is the workshop for you.

Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance and Canines for Wildlife are conducting koala surveys to collect genetic material from koala scats for genetic, health and stress hormone analysis in the Coffs Harbour and Bellingen LGAs.

We want to collect fresh koala scats and are seeking local information on where people are hearing koalas calling or seeing a koala.

Come and join us and learn;

  • Koala ecology
  • Correct methodologies for scat collection - suitable for DNA testing
  • Key identifying features of varying types of scats
  • Distinguish koala scats from other native animal feaces.

Be involved in a citizen science workshop where you can can collect scats!

This event is supported through Cores, Corridors and Koalas - a partnership between Great Eastern Ranges and WWF-Australia to restore and reconnect critical habitat for forest-dependent native animals. The Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance is leading the project in the region.
