Join us for our ‘Building Bellingen Shire’s Capital’ initiative to explore how the Bellingen Shire community and organisations can create and control local sources of funding and assets to achieve our goals.

About the initiative

Communities and local organisations can generate the resources they need. And the best way to do it… right here in our own backyard. We invite you to participate in a guided, hands-on approach to build our capacity to identify, access and manage the capital our community needs.

This includes financial capital (money, funding, finance, income) and capital assets (land, natural resources, infrastructure, enterprises, services). Which are essential for tackling issues like rising living costs, housing availability and affordability, infrastructure and service deficiencies, building small business opportunities and viability, shifting to renewable energy and circular economies, addressing disadvantage and inequity, regenerating our environment, food systems and preparing for future uncertainties.

By strengthening our ability to generate and manage local capital, we can move away from short-term solutions and build lasting self-reliance and resilience. There are many ways communities can do this from the ground up—ways that strengthen the place, the people, and create more inclusive and equitable outcomes.

Who should join?

This initiative is open to all community members and local organisations in Bellingen Shire and surrounds.

No prior experience with capital is required—just a willingness to explore how to secure funding and assets for your community project, a local organisation, or even a long-term regional strategy.

What’s involved?

We are hosting three interactive workshops to help the Bellingen Shire community:

✔ Understand capital—what it is and why it matters

✔ Map our capital needs and opportunities

✔ Identify solutions that will help us achieve our community goals

Our approach is participatory, action-oriented, and shaped by local voices and aspirations.
